CLASSIC CAR & MOTORCYCLE SHOW

The weather was dry and the cars perfect at Quaker Steak & Lube / Polaris on Sunday, September 22nd. Check out the participant vehicles and winners HERE.

Big plans for this fun event are being made for 2025, with a change in venue (maybe to NHS) and with more corporate sponsorship. Help us connect with valued corporations who might want to sponsor! It's always tax deductible. Our goal is to include several food trucks to feed those hungry spectators as they view the vehicles!

NHS VIKING WELLNESS CENTER

With the end of the football season, the Wellness Center will be back at the forefront for completion! Your kind donations will go towards the purchase of exercise equipment and additional needs the center has. Watch for a post once the project is complete.

NHS FLASHBACK

Were you at Northland during the 1978-1979 school year? Forty-five years ago, the US population was 225,055,487 people and the average life expectancy was 73.9 years. The median household income was $16,461 and the average new home jumped to a cost of $71,800. A gallon of gas was $0.88 (with inflation that is equivalent to $3.70 today!) A gallon of milk cost you $1.62 and eggs were $0.85 a dozen. To send a letter, the cost was $0.15 for a first-class stamp.

At the Academy Awards, do you remember the movie that took 4 Oscars? Among them - Best Actor (Dustin Hoffman), Best Director (Robert Benton), Best Supporting Actress (Meryl Streep) and Stanley Jaffe accepting the statue for Best Picture. Oh, it was also the top grossing film of the year, too. All over a kid?

The top-rated television shows were 60 Minutes and Three's Company. The Emmy Award for best drama went to Lou Grant, with the star of the show, Ed Asner, winning best actor. Barbara Bel Geddes from Dallas winning best actress. Appearing on the same show, Richard Mulligan and Cathryn Damon teamed up to win the awards for best comedy actor and actress. Can you name the show? Hint: We all shower with it.

Album of the Year was 52nd Street by Billy Joel. Do you remember what tune won Record of the Year and Song of the Year? It was by the Doobie Brothers and appeared on one of the top albums of the year.

In the World of sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XIV (fourth win in 6 years), the Seattle Supersonics won the NBA Championship, the Montreal Canadians won their 4th straight Stanley Cup and the Pittsburgh Pirates won the world Series in 7 games, winning the last 3 games.

What was happening at Northland High? Sports, for the most part, took a rebuilding year. Peggy Gulick was crowned the Homecoming Queen, 

Jim Hartigan led the Marching Band. 

And we're sure there is more than one person out there that can hear this picture, (iykyk).

GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR ALUMNI FOUNDATION

Looking for a way to make a difference? Find out what your alumni foundation does! We would love your support, whether long term or for short projects. Our next NHSAF monthly organization meeting will be held on Tuesday, November12 at NHS, 1919 Northcliff Dr., Columbus, OH 43229. All school year meetings start at 6:30pm at NHS, with the December and summer meetings to be held off campus.

Northland we will all be true. Hearts unite in song for you. Wave we high the green and gold. Mem'ries last 'tho years will roll. Lives are molded by your frame. Loyalty is not in vain. Echo back the proud reply, we are for you old Northland High.
