I am proud to say that after 18 credit hours and 16 weeks of reading, writing and studying, I ended my first semester with a 3.89 gpa. I wanted to make Dean’s List and that’s exactly what I did. At the beginning of this school year, I wasn’t sure if I was ready for Miami; I didn’t come from a suburban neighborhood or suburban school like most of my classmates. Even though that may have caused my classmates to doubt me, I proved them wrong. This semester has taught me so much about hard work and how to be an independent, young, black woman. But more importantly than that, I have grown in my faith and have witnessed the goodness of God. He has helped me to persevere through it all and continues to give me strength in pursuing my passions. So for those of you who think that city schools do not prepare kids for college and that God is not a living God, you can take your opinion elsewhere because I am a living example of his love and mercy.
