NHS FLASHBACK… 1982

Did you attend Northland in 1982?  Forty years ago the average life expectancy was 74.5 years and US population was 231,664,458.  The median household income was $20,171 and the average new home cost was $83,900.  A gallon of regular gasoline was $1.13 to get a gallon of milk for $2.24, a dozen eggs for 84 cents at the grocery store.  In sports, the Washington Redskins won the Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA championship and the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series.  Herschel Walker, Georgia Bulldogs running back won the Heisman Trophy.  “E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial” was the top grossing movie.  “Gandhi” won the trifecta at the Academy Awards for best movie, Richard Attenborough was best director while Ben Kingsley was best actor.  “Harden My Heart” was the Billboard top song of the year, while the band Toto had the album and record of the year at the Grammys.  The Emmys gave 3 awards to the show “St. Elsewhere” and the show “Taxi”.

 

 At NHS, 1982 saw the Lady Vikings bring home the State Basketball Championship.

On top of attending classes and taking tests, 1982 left plenty of time for having fun,
